Each sentient animal is a unique individual with a conscious, subjective existence & the capacity to suffer. Each therefore is a subject of justice deserving of full moral consideration & hence the bearer of inviolable rights. Each has a legitimate right to life & bodily autonomy.
A few of those animals are still alive, spending their last moments of life in a pile of dead bodies. ยฌ30% of broiler chickens will die in agony before slaughterhouse date. Each year, over 500 million will die this way - that's 1/16 of the human population, just in the US.

22.10.2025 18:28 โ ๐ 26 ๐ 13 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Anaesthesia? What??? Where does it say that?? Unnecessary anaesthesia when cutting off a part of an animal?
But let's assume this is true - how on earth can you justify cutting parts of animals for production of a thing that is unnecessary?
Do we prosecute people for slaughtering animals? Because what would be your justification for animal slaughter when you can not slaughter them?
Also, industry practices such as castration, dehorning, debudding, tail docking - all done without anaesthesia, all this is RSPCA approved and torture imho.
Just to be clear - roaming animals are still tortured - that's my claim.
22.10.2025 14:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm not in the US. If I post UK slaughterhouse and farming footage, would you watch and sign off on UK slaughter and maiming to be a good treatment of animals?
22.10.2025 14:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Have you looked into what "free range" means?
Also - do you think a little bit of torture once in a while is better than no torture? Like, I think if it's worth reducing, surely it's worth eliminating?
@twonkybot.bsky.social Please answer this โฌ๏ธ
22.10.2025 07:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's your exploitative mindset talking - sanctuaries exist, they're run by vegans, and animals are well fed in them. Animal ag feed is subsidised anyway.
But also, this doesn't interact with my question - why should we value existence of a species over the wellbeing of individuals?
What's the problem with extinction of selectively bred mutated animals who're only brought into existence to be tortured, exploited & killed? I'm not sure why I should value the existence of a species over their wellbeing of individuals.
Who feeds them? Rn our tax money. Why wouldn't that continue?
But I think the better question is - why do you care about the animals when they're fictitious victims of vegans, but not when they're real victims of your actions?
21.10.2025 16:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0BUT EVEN IF we decided that we can't feed them in this unlikely sudden vegan world scenario - killing all the animals would be an improvement on breeding torturing and killing them over and over and over again in perpetuity. The amount of suffering this vegan world will save - is enormous.
21.10.2025 16:03 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But even if we all go vegan at a push of a button - the broiler chickens will die quickly since they're bred to barely survive a few months of life, same goes for turkeys, and the rest - sanctuaries, feed them the same food we've been feeding them so far, and let them die a natural death.
21.10.2025 16:01 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This assumes that everyone will go vegan at once, that once everyone goes vegan we somehow will lose the ability to feed these animals, and that they will all survive their genetics.
The more realistic scenario is that the more vegans there are, the less animals will be bred into existence.
Why vegan The vegan position comes from understanding the reasons for why it's immoral to exploit and kill sentient beings when it's *not necessary. When we consider why it's not ok to exploit and kill humans, it is reduced to the following: humans are capable of experiencing the life around them and prefer to live, they can feel pain, fear, joy and other emotions that make us not want to experience the negative feelings. Those experiences are part of what it means to be sentient. Humans and animals are different in many ways, but we have some things in common, including sentience. This means that for the same reasons it's immoral to exploit and kill humans in the context of lack of necessity, it's also immoral to exploit and kill animals in the same context. The exploitation and killing of animals is not necessary in the 21st century, where we are used to the products that result from exploitation and slaughter of animals, but we have alternatives to all or most of those products. This means that it's immoral to exploit and slaughter animals in the 21st century. *not necessary = when there are no strong overriding reasons, such as personal survival.
This is my argument for #veganism.
If this doesn't seem right to you - let's discuss.
Imagine there are 2 possible worlds: World A: We exploit and slaughter animals for unnecessary stuff World B: We DON'T exploit and slaughter animals for unnecessary stuff Which world is more moral?
World A or World B?
