Oh man, that movie was on at my grandparents' place ALL the time as a kid. My granddad was the biggest musical fan I know, haha.

Man, I get so invested in Bridgerton romances. I don't even like romantic comedies, lol

I have to assume it's just a matter of something catching the zeitgeist and others then becoming are of it - there will be different emphases soon enough

Oh my goodness, the music in the second Pokopia zone is so pretty

Yeah, that's not great. I assume they use the same metric for Deck Verification (albeit at 720p maybe?), and it's been a pretty reliable quality benchmark there at least, but this isn't super promising.

You know, as long as Mario jumps around and there's some goombas, I'm happy

You're not wrong, but they're pretty uncomfortable for some folks - I mask if I'm sick and need to be out (rarely) or have to travel in close proximity to others, but otherwise don't. I've yet to find a mask that isn't hot and painful after a short period.

Heck yeah! It's the best 2D Mario since 1990, and I say that as someone who also enjoyed the New Super Mario Bros. games.

Nah, you can skip to the second - they're both more or less standalone. The second is much better too: more engaging story, mechanics, and visual design.

100%'d Resident Evil 9 tonight on my 4th run. What a wonderful game! (cheers to @huggablehipster.bsky.social for her guides)

I'm so excited for that game! Still haven't decided if I'll go Switch 2 or PS5

You know what would cause a delay? Mass applying to the company listings. Waste their time. Maybe someone will get lucky and secure an interview that gives a start date.

I agree, though I've been surprised that many folks don't. In long-form serialized narratives, it feels like you should be regularly introducing new protagonists rather than relying on the old guard, but I guess one's mileage may vary. Hope we see more of Grace!

Funny enough, I felt the same but found the open world sequence the most fun to replay in my subsequent runs! RE9 is such a marvelous addition to the series overall.

Bulbasaur (in reference to a box): "See? This thing? What do you think it is?" Bulbasaur (in reference to a box): "I think it's... a bed for napping!" Narrator: This is a workbench.

This amused me

Er, what I mean to say wrt budgets and associated ROI is that higher costs associated with developing games in high-defition - especially open-world ones - necessitated safer designs in an effort to ensure profits were still made. Realized my original comment was weirdly written.

Agreed - it's part of the reason (alongside budgets and associated ROI) that so many of the games of the late 90s and early 00s are endearingly unique, as well as so much indie stuff on itch.io. There's a tradeoff, as these can have more friction, but experimentation is necessary for great art.
