We've run a yearly Disc-tober art challenge for the last 5 years and this year our prompts are words and phrases from the books themselves ! For those who are not familiar with our art challenge, we encourage fans of Terry Pratchett's works to create a piece of art based on our daily prompts. We publish a list of prompts for every day of October. It's a way to pass the time and have a go at producing something possibly a little out of your comfort zone. We don't judge the artwork, we just enjoy seeing it! The rules are simple. 1. Read the prompt of the day. 2. Produce a piece of visual artwork inspired by that prompt. 3. Today would have been Terry's 77th birthday, and tonight many of us will be in London for a special version of The Magic of Terry Pratchett show to celebrate our favourite author.

In Terry's Discworld series, the clacks are a type of semaphore towers.

3 of the codes are:

G: send the message on
N: do not log the message
U: turn the message around at the end of the line and send it back again

GNU before a name meant the name would continuously be "spoken" on the clacks.

We have so many personal memories from the many years we spent in Terry's company and we would love to read your memories of your time with the man himself.

Terry is pictured here at the naming of the streets in Wincanton. He was about to place his hands in cement for a plaque and then scrawl his signature upon it using a stick. Many fans were there dressed up as characters from his books. We were busy taking photographs for Discworld Monthly.
