I think, online spaces sometimes forget that they are talking to real people with complex feelings. Artists are not just what they put out and should not be treated that way.
Don't gaslight yourself into thinking you should be flattered by it.
It doesn't really matter how other people might recieve a statement like this. Important is how you truly feel so you're able to set boundaries for yourself. Keep yourself save from getting into similar situations again

So... Still shitty that writers have a tighter collar around their neck, but we are in a similar boat. With the biggest difference that we are a bit more desensitised to the risk of selling fanart
Cease and desist letters get sent out all the time. Get one too many in a short time period and your shop gets closed down.
Same with monetized videos or a individual website.
If potential buyers can find you so can the people who enforce copyrights
Same risk selling in artist alley too
And i also need to say that artists get copyright strikes too. Noone talking about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Eastern IP holders are more strict than weatern ones. But still, anything fandom related sold on Etsy is a risk.
Selling fan content is and always has been a grey area.
Just because AO3 flags you if you mention anything commission related doesn't mean there is other ways. As a less risky example; Some writers have a ko-fi page where you can tip them for their incredible work 😊
