North West Shelf final approvalΒ a climate, economic and energy security disaster Australia Institute analysis shows today's final approval of the 45-year expansion of Woodside’s North West Shelf gas export terminal is equivalent to building 12 new coal power stations.

The final approval of the 45-year expansion of Woodside’s North West Shelf gas export terminal is equivalent to building 12 new coal power stations.

It will undermine the nation's energy security, drive up energy prices & is the greatest giveaway of Australian natural resources ever.

⛰️ In a new study in @science.org, we project that 39% of the global glacier mass is committed to be lost irrespective of future warming.

However, a lot can still be saved - see title:
β€œGlacier preservation doubled by limiting warming to 1.5Β°C versus 2.7Β°C”

Fossil fuel companies β€˜poisoned the well’ of public debate with climate disinformation. Here’s how Australia can break free The US has obstructed climate action for decades – largely due to damaging actions by the powerful fossil fuel industry. But Australia has a chance now to lead.

In this moment when science is under attack, Australia offers a model of how we can make progress even in the face of massive opposition.

We've had a decade of drift in climate policy. We've had policies proposed and then abandoned. We've had science acknowledged and then ignored, and we've created a situation where more and more assets and more and more Australian lives are at risk from climate change than ever needed to be.

I mean, to me, this is the single most irresponsible act that I've ever seen by governments."

Looks like the next week will be very warm across nearly the entire Antarctic Ice Sheet with widespread 5-15 C temperature anomalies. Multiple atmospheric rivers in West and East Antarctica will contribute to the heat. Definitely concerning as well are within the melt season
