When Trump came to power, he ripped up the peace deal that Obama had made, and used the uncertainty he created as an excuse to bomb Iran, insisting he had ended the problem he had created once and for all, except now he's bombing them again to solve the problem he created and previously solved?

That's 550+ miles from Iran. Are their air defenses *already* collapsing from the onslaught?

welp, someone (not me!) finally put this database out into the wild... it's as bad as you thought it was, if not worse.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but this is unacceptable.

Quite seriously think his beliefs are:
1. Americans love a war and you can make yourself immune from criticism by starting a forever war of choice.
2. This will enable him to use all of his emergency powers, including ones not invented yet, to steal the election/intimidate liberals into submission.

Pretty sure the complaint is that young Americans are only in harm's way because the deranged president launched an unconstitutional war without any effort to justify it and, apparently, with no real plan or agenda in mind.

So, now seems like the best time for all that?

Public plan for emergency and preventative care (including basic vision, dental, mental health)

Private insurance for specialty care

This would sidestep Hyde, the Takings Clause, and take away the biggest excuses for high insurance costs all at the same time.

NEWS: A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to return a man ICE improperly deported to Mexico and release him in Minnesota. Judge Bryan said the man lacked access to counsel, may not have received a translated form, and was held in Texas for a week despite orders to send him back.

I will note that I drew parallels with "anti-anti-Trump" people for a reason in this post. Those folks also recognized their guy was a fascist, but then backed themselves into supporting him because they couldn't bring themselves to support a woman against him.

Friendly reminder that Trump has significantly more family members who were undocumented immigrants than family members who served in the US military (which is zero)

They often detract from understanding the bigger picture, without providing any particular insight, and the characters are a bit cardboardy, like a 70s war-movie. I hate to say this bc gathering and curating these anecdotes must be big research job.

Beevor's anecdotes are sort of fun but after a while a bit samey (soldier sees another soldier suffer PTSD; Dutch civilians offer brandy; German wonders bombastically about Engländer paras; Lt so-and-so of the Screaming Eagles see his friend slump down in the foxhole)

The wikipedia articles brings out just as or more clearly what a f*ckup the whole thing was (e.g. the decision to split the Polish brigade in two lifts on either side of the Neder Rhein; the arrival of the second lift while the LZ were being overrun)

Re-read Beevor's book on the Battle of Arnhem. Striking picture of incompetence and ass-covering by the British brass, German ferocity in the defense, American aggression and know-how, endurant Tommies, and immense suffering of the Dutch. Not sure Beevor's hallmark anecdotes really necessary.

You know, a known risk of using LLMs for operational planning is that they will treat outdated information as equally valid to current information, and they aren’t good at allowing real-time user input “train” them to preference current information over the older information they were trained on.

i think this is exactly right. fascism is the Death Drive as ideology. it's why the catastrophic end of the Nazi Party does not deter people from worshipping Nazis. that the Nazis destroyed Germany along with the rest of Europe is part of the appeal.
