Oregon National Guard Adjutant General, General Gronewold says if they are federalized, that he will advise the Title 10 commander to utilize National Guard Troops to PROTECT protesters at ICE facilities. This is the right answer.

as I tried to explain to corey robin, the Nazis were incompetent boobs.

not that that's much comfort to all the people they murdered.

Trump’s Weakness Is Not At Odds With His Fascism Contra Corey Robin, fascists are often weak and incompetent. Also dangerous.

Really looking forward to the @jasonleopold.bsky.social FOIA for the staffer's notes who put this together, DURING a shutdown.

Not least bc (as @whitehouse.senate.gov noted), the Reid Hoffman slur was false.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

So Bondi plans her congressional hearings by bringing up dirt on the senators who questioned her rather than answering the questions. This is the lying schemer that is running the DOJ.

Josh Hawley just lied during Bondi’s hearing today.
He claimed that the Biden Administration β€œtapped” his phone.
What they actually did was request phone records for the time period around the J6 insurrection. Hardly the same thing.

Reuters photographer Jonathan Ernst noticed that Bondi flipped open a file during the Senate hearing and he zoomed in.

Inside were her crib notes for attacking the senators.

The GOP now practicing Cliff's Notes Fascism

In other words, under oath Bondi was purely a performance.

I'm glad corey robin came around and is now willing to say trump is a fascist, but I do feel some kind of way about him claiming that real leftists understood trump wasn't really a fascist for years.

like, he's said he's wrong, but hasn't really apologized to the people he mocked or sneered at.

I don't doubt that Trumpism will soon crumble and things will return to a seeming normal. But what worries me is whether we will again make the mistake of offering impunity to these degenerates because if so, we're just waiting around for fascism that sticks.

Much to my surprise, I'm actually laughing and chuckling out aloud while reading Menander's Dyskolos. I think last time I looked at it was for a reading list (in 1991 or so ?) and I just found the ebb and flow of the language a bit trickier than I had hoped

<GM Trevelyan has entered the chat>

"The yeoman archer was...a formidable consideration for bailiffs and Justices trying to enforce servile dues or statutory rates of wages in the name of Law, which no one high or low, regarded with any great respect".

Yes he has to be recuperated within the system rather than challenge it radically; or be made to suffer death and disilusion

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking about but not knowing how to articulate it.

08.10.2025 00:05 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

yes, but you can use the materials from a narrative to forge your own radical history ! Of course I've read Laslett-- do not let traditional, "let's hear the difference of the past" blind you to the liberating potential of radical history ! These are different levels of analysis

08.10.2025 00:05 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

super-spectacular violence, wielded periodically, against the lower classes; but also giving some elements (yeomen) a share of the spoils of war (i.e. easier to go with the flow, get indentured into a retinue going to Normandy and France, reap some rewards, rather than shooting your landlord)

08.10.2025 00:03 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

but I'm still struck by the potential of the longbow to put social relations under threat, and i think it's not paralleled e.g. in France; it might be more so in S. Germany etc with their armed peasantry (and here I wonder about the Peasants' Revolts). Also thinking about the tradi tool of elites:

08.10.2025 00:02 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes it's the aspect of bargaining, concessions, manipulation that interests me most. (and of course the longbow is not a super-weapon but part of a war-winning system in which the whole Lancastrian state-and-society nexus participates, from tax down to the planted stakes and the men-at-arms).

08.10.2025 00:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i.e. class is really a very useful tool to think even of medieval society. Even Marc Bloch can be read this way; and Chris Wickham has shown us how feudal society should be read in terms of class.

07.10.2025 23:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes I like that point, that yeomen are in fact not lumpen but are stakeholders in social structures

07.10.2025 23:56 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I've read Sumption and Anne Curry, & I knew Simon Walker a bit when I was a Fellow of All Souls. But I'm inviting you to think past ideology and institutions, and to take a step in radical, class based history. A great tradition in the study of England ! All you have to lose is your (mental) chains

07.10.2025 23:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Actually I see that:
1. Wat Tyler served as a longbowman
2. This line of reasoning has been pursed by 2A types (longbow made Eng soc nicer to peasants)-- i.e. avoiding class-based questions about ideology and social inertia

This remains THE issue, and it's not one you can solve credibly without the Trump regime fundamentally abandoning its modus operandi thus far, as by firing Russ Vought. (Either that or the Senate GOP nukes the filibuster)
