250 years and we're still clapping for "first Black woman to..." like it's progress and not an indictment.
In direct contradiction of every bad porn fantasy ever?!
"Striker" progress: Playing with a bunch of shit I really don't understand at all, while totally ignoring what I'm actually supposed to be doing, but I'm coming up with some really fucking cool looking concrete pavers.
True story: This is an actual plot point of a (really very excellent) novel by @matociquala.bsky.social: Suspected murder attempt via brain-eating amoebae in somebody's neti pot. IN SPAAAAAAAAACE.
(Where the hell does one even GET brain-eating amoebae IN SPAAAAAAAAACE?)
Three books in one day?! That's ambitious even for me...
I feel you so much. I've been doing a sequence of learning mini-projects in my own idiom and, for sure, the beginning of each new project is by far the slowest and least productive-feeling part. The high from the last project has faded, the direction isn't clear yet, the energy isn't flowing yet.
Including actively trying to pick fights. "You wanna fight me? You wanna take a swing?" Sit the fuck down, Grandpa, nobody's trying to fight a decrepit dying eighty-five-year-old man. We're just waiting for you to die so everyone else can get on with their lives.
This country - certain elements of its leadership, anyway - has exactly the same energy as my grandfather near the end of his life. He had dementia and would get incredibly belligerent over imagined slights and start haranguing everyone around him who didn't immediately jump to his defense.
I am increasingly convinced that we're not only in a bottom-quarter timeline, but that we may be in fact the stupidest timeline. Bottom #1. Dead last.
Such a great book!
This is the destination of every company that tries to replace creative human workers with AI slop.

I HAVE read it, and I agree, it's very good.
"That's a no-brainer. Of course it's a violation of international law, that's why it's a covert action. The guy is a terrorist. Go grab his ass." - Al Gore
Extraordinary rendition: "It's illegal to torture you where you are, and illegal to torture you here, so we'll kidnap you and take you to a THIRD country to commit whatever human rights violations we like." Occurred during Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations; no evidence it's stopped since.
Ker-Frisbie: "Doesn't matter how you came to be in the US, now that you've been kidnapped and brought to the US, we have jurisdiction to prosecute you." Upheld by the Supreme Court in 1886, 1952, and again in 1992.
Google a couple concepts related to state-sponsored abductions:
* Ker-Frisbie doctrine
* Extraordinary rendition
Government kidnappings aren't new or novel; the only difference is that now we're doing it inside US borders. We've pretty much always been this shitty.
I should draw some robbuts. It has been many manies since I have drawn robbuts. Or anything else, really. Heck, I think the last time I drew anything at all was a quick sketch of an ammonite on the back of an envelope... for social media... but I think back in the xitter days.
It's been a minute.
Oh man. I'm hopelessly basic so I'm gonna have to go with Losing My Religion, and Shiny Happy People a close second. Still have both on playlists in heavy rotation even today.
I'm constantly torn between "Wow, past me really had my back" and "Wow, I really need to discuss that jerk in therapy."
Wait, what? Apparently I bought this already... six years ago? I could have sworn that the only work of yours (and Amal El-Mohtar's) I'd read was This Is How You Lose The Time War (which, by the way, was utterly fantastic, and I recommend highly.)
I'M EVEN FURTHER BEHIND THAN I THOUGHT
You're not wrong, you're not wrong.
That.... actually sounds incredibly intriguing. But I am SO FAR BEHIND on my bought books right now. π
I feel like most neurotypical people fail to understand the comfort that comes from just existing within the same space as people I care about.
Frankly, that's some of the best advice I've heard, even if it did come straight from the author's mouth (pen? keyboard?) and not from an unwanted cheap artificial unintelligence fake.
Nobody fuckin' says fuck enough.
The worst day at the salon beats the best day at work.
I've been told, to my face, that I'm not a game developer, or that my 14+ years of writing and making narrative games means nothing because there's "no audience for the games about trans masculinity you want to focus on now."
Comments like these are what matter to me.
