Another great Word in Your Ear chats where Mark and David speak to @scottrowley.bsky.social about his forthcoming book β€˜Stay Alive:The Life & Death of Stuart Adamson’
Includes, of course, the opportunity to revisit one of the all time classic Smash Hits nicknames

I’d never heard The Love Unlimited Orchestra’s β€˜Rhapsody in White’ until I picked this up last month as a lucky Β£1 find in a second hand shop and I can now honestly say it’s one of the greatest albums I’ve ever listened to

100%. I’ve got a lot of love for Caravan. It’s as if Finger from Nuts In May started a prog band as opposed to former Charterhouse alumni. Not that I’ve got anything against them either.

The dog, the dog he’s at it again’ really is prog at its very best. Unfortunate album title or not.

I was thinking just the same thing a little while back. Concluded that as a naive 21 year old man with faux artistic pretensions and wanting girls to find him β€˜deep’, worthy melodrama felt aspirational. Nowadays, there is nothing I despise more in music than worthiness. Or pretending to be deep.

β€˜Waiting for the Out’ is spectacularly good television with everyone clearly aware they’re in something special. But Josh Finan’s performance is just magnetic. Deserving of all the awards.

Also, it has never crossed my mind that The Beatles name is never spoken during AHDN. Always learning.

Watching this Trump press conference. It is SO utterly deranged it is genuinely like watching someone’s total cognitive functionality atrophy in real time. I mean, if nothing else - and it is *everything* else - it’s just so goddamn weird

A great way to celebrate David Bowie if you’re in London this Saturday. An afternoon of talks and events @foylesforbooks.bsky.social. Conveniently located in the centre of Bowie’s West End/Soho universe.

It feels like it doesn’t it? Over familiarity and shoddy legacy management has driven me to this point. I thought a shiny Anthology series might help but it’s made it worse. It felt like a botched restoration job of a dated but once holy text. The Big Train sketch has never felt more prescient
