Trees down around a campfire pit after the northern Michigan ice storm. A stump of a tree is shown as well as a DNR truck in the background.

Due to the tree-mendous efforts of DNR staff, state parks are getting cleaned up after the storm. Most of the campgrounds and overnight lodging are expected to open on time. Only Clear Lake, Petoskey and Otsego state parks have postponed their opening to May 15.

View of the big Spring in Palms book State Park

Happy spring!
Have you been to Palms Book State Park, home to Kitch-iti-kipi or “The Big Spring", the largest freshwater spring in Michigan? Over 10,000 gallons of water gushes through fissures making it look like sand is bubbling up from the bottom. Very cool!
