I have just enjoyed a lovely week off, doing various tasks at home and just revelling in Not Being At Work. Of course, Monday morning will start to loom at some point over the weekend but am doing my very best Not To Think About It...

I'm reading that JosΓ© van Dam has died in his mid-80s. Karajan's Gurnemanz (amongst loads of other roles, of course)

I'm sure there's a Halle cd featuring this work and an acoustic recording of some old chap singing the folk song used by Delius.

"this is my promise to you -
The rainbow overhead...
Violet indigo blue and green...
All the colours that lie between...
Violet indigo blue and green
Yellow orange and red"

I'm not sure he ever attained "superstar" status but I've many of his great recordings. Ripe old age too. RIP.

In charity shops today, my restraint should have won n an award. 6 books, a cafetiere (unused), a large killner -type jar, and a shirt (which was miles too small), but I did not buy a cdset of Karajan's 1960s Beethoven symphony cycle at the almost irresistible price of Β£1. The struggle was acute.

I do appreciate the public service you're providing with this series of observations. Even though of course I'm not their target market. I look forward to your spin-off project re their men's clothing...

Why was it so disappointing? The black of mushrooms and the excessive provision of hash browns?

I do enjoy the sheer unpredictability of charity shops. Some days i harvest loads of stuff, others nothing at all. Unfortunately a lot of local ones are currently not taking donations which isn't helpful to the decluttering programme!
