The 2025 @ieeevis.bsky.social conference is about to start!
It's my third and last time as organizer of the #SciVis Contest, and I am happy that we have an exciting number of high-quality contestants this year that present how visual tools can be used to discover novel materials in recycling.

Speaking of Bergen, ever considered moving to Norway? We have a job opening for a Tenured Associate or full Professor in Visual Data Science / Visualization 📊! I can add that as a tenured associate professor there is a clear path towards promotion to full professor. www.jobbnorge.no/en/available...
The 2025 SciVis Contest Data is available!
If you/your team/your students are looking for an exciting visualization challenge (it's about helping scientists develop new, sustainable materials), take a look at the contest data:

Stripes can be so engaging.
For many of my students, the "climate stripes" are the most striking example which helps them understand how #visualization can transport important messages in a glance.
I just hope we can limit the number of added colors in the future :/

I made a data visualization academics starter pack! go.bsky.app/wzjzNi
Let me know who I should add. #datavis
And just like that IEEE VIS is over! I truly think we made the best out of that stormy situation!
See you around! (And now looking forward to seeing more #vis content on here as well^^)

Alright, just had my last presentation at 🌴 IEEE VIS for this year (talked about #DaVE - dave-vis.com ) and while I am very happy for the discussions that are happening in the conference Discord, I cannot wait to meet everyone again in person. Let’s meet in #Vienna!
#ieeevis
And finally, this wednesday, I'll be presenting our short paper on #DaVE - A Curated Databse of Visualization Examples, which aims to help #HPC users to find and run advanced #visualization techniques. I hope the VIS community will help DaVE grow!

At the same time, we presented our work on uncertainty visualization for symmetric degenrate tensor field ensembles at the workshop on uncertainty visualization.
If that sparks your interest, feel free to check out the paper here:

Already this morning, we started off with the 2024 IEEE
#SciVis
Contest. We found the winning entry and already presented the two(!) contests for 2025 and 2025!
So go ahead and check them out:

I have to be honest, I wasn't really active here, but #ieeevis is a good reason to come back and not only post stuff on #LinkedIn (but feel free to connect there as well, if you'd like to: www.linkedin.com/in/dertimger...).
This year's VIS is actually quite busy for me (a thread).
🎉Yay! We won a best paper award🏆
We worked on ways to visualize degenerate tensor locations in tensor ensembles.
Because BlueSky has such a strong limitation of characters, read all about it over on LinkedIn, if you are interested:

🔊Last few hours to apply to be an SV! We'll close the form in ~17 hours (once Aug 16 is done AoE)
Don't forget about the SV Tshirt contest! If we pick your design, you'll automatically be an SV and you'll get to wear your design with the other SVs at VIS! vissv.org/shirtcontest...
🎉 I‘m happy to announce that I was invited as keynote speaker for this year‘s ParaView User Day Europe! 🇪🇺

We are at #ISC24 in Hamburg right now!
It has now become almost somewhat of a tradition to have a #NHR4CES sofa talk on #Visualization at the start of the conference. So here we are again!
If you happen to be here, feel free to come over today at 16:30 at the #NHR booth!
🎉 IEEE VIS is on Bluesky! Please give us a follow for updates about the world's top venue for advances in data visualization and visual analytics.
Gerade in #Aachen mit den tausenden Menschen gegen Rechts zusammenzustehen berührt mich wahnsinnig. Und es macht mir Hoffnung. #NoAFD
Finally, there is, of course, a new challenge for this year!
The data for the 2024 contest describes Sonar Imaging for Hydrothermal Systems and I'm already excited to see all the #visualization approaches that come out of it. All details here:

By the way, if you also want to use the contest data (Brain network simulations) for your own work, we have made the data permanently available and citable through Zenodo, so feel free to get creative with it:

I'm still quite happy how last year's #SciVis Contest at #IEEEVIS turned out.
Some of the results have been added to the contest website and I can only urge you to check them out, some amazing work can be found there: sciviscontest2023.github.io/results/ (1/3)
Internet is also #cats and sharing stories about them. I lost one of mine yesterday. Farewell.
Wow, how is it Friday already? Another #ieeevis is coming to an end. Once again I’ll be going home with so many new insights, impressions and - most important to me - new connections and friends. Thanks for that ☺️
I love that #ieeevis offers panels such as „Establishing and Thriving in an Academic Career“ which is so helpful and shows how much the community is happy to help and support one another. Makes me really happy to be part of it.
Great talk and amazing insights by Fumeng Yang at #ieeevis on the impact of voting forecast visualization in the US. Well deserved best paper award!
Im very happy about yesterday‘s #SciVis #Contest challenge session at #ieeevis. Now I can finally reveal the secret prizes I have been hiding for a while: Professional Ultimate #SciVisContest Frisbees 🥏
Congratulations again to the winners 🏆
There are probably some people currently planning what to attend @ #ieeevis conference next week. My highly secret insights reccomend visiting the #SciVis #Contest session on Monday, 14°°. Honestly, we had such great submissions on brain activity data! See you in #Melbourne :)
Hello #bluesky. I’ll use this account to share the things that I come across in my line of #research in #visualization. At least I think so, let’s see where we end up with this :)
