You would be surprised how many non techy people are game devs who genuinely do not understand what we are talking about and all the insane technical rendering issues under the hood. Just like how most people dont understand the basics of how a car engine works, they just expect to get in and drive.

As for other studios creating games with UE5, they will rarely have someone whos job is image quality, since the idea is that Epic has done all the hard work on the engine and devs are free to create the gameplay. But in actuality, UE default settings are garbage and require lots of adjustment (2/2)

Im a game dev and focus on visual fidelty and tech art generally. The biggest thing is those companies with custom engines have people who genuinely care about image quality and make good defaults/presets and create new tools and fix old tools to integrate new improvements in rendering tech (1/2)
