I see what you’re saying but I think this line of reasoning is specific to parents. In theory, parents ARE the one who asked for this kid to be born so the idea that a child (at any age) owes them something just for being born and natural consequences that follow is a little manipulative.

I imagine this comes from the idea that innovation is born out of limitations or that adversity breeds creativity. And sure those things do happen but we don’t need extra limitations or adversity thrown at creatives ever. Moreover, the degree of control it had in this case is unsupportable.

Fortunately I never had the issue of them talking louder. That sounds awful. They just kept talking like I wasn’t saying anything. Which now that I think about it might be worse even if it (in some instances) may have been unintentional.

Maybe this falls under the “say it now category” but often I interrupt people unintentionally because I’m desperately trying to get a word in. Frequently, for me, it feels like if I don’t actively try to insert a thought into a conversation at the smallest pause, I just won’t get to say anything.

Considering one of Matteo’s first big comedy routines consisted of him dunking on baristas by saying they don’t have a real job, im not sure he has a brain to turn off.

Even if they understand the issues on some level, they’re children. They need to be able to grow and make mistakes without consequences that follow them forever. Adults don’t have that luxury precisely because they can make their own choices and have responsibility to do so wisely/kindly.
