No Help and Few Options for Travelers Stranded by Mideast Conflict

One woman who called the State Department helpline looking for help said they told her to "stop ranting and raving" and hung up on her.

Another woman said they asked her how to spell Oman.

there's a not especially healthy situation where they are trying to sort of speak the '90s video game panics into reality. it's like a Pony Express-style PSA for troubled teens, an audience-callout for anyone who has ever played a first-person shooter game and wished "the other person actually died"

markwayne mullin going on TV and tripping over whether or not this is a "war" marks the triumphant merger of two great strains of american conservatismβ€”a legal tradition rooted in coming up with alternative meanings for ordinary words, and guys who aren't ex-military but want to sound like it

The future in Texas is bright and terrifying Democrats are once more dreaming of what could be. Republicans are dreaming of Rhodesia.

2026 in a nutshell: a Democratic Party with maybe a puncher’s chance if everything goes rightβ€”and a Republican base testing just how far gone it can go, before it ever pays a price for anything. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

"How am I going to sell my house with this crap in my backyard?" ICE wants to turn warehouses into detention centers. The suburbs are fighting back.

I'm reminded of the 2019 Europa League final, where Henrikh Mkhitaryan could not even attend the match because geopolitical safety concerns. sporting bodies would simply rather do business with bad governments than have to work around them, barring a huge outcry.

Trump to POLITICO: β€˜I really don’t care’ if Iran plays in World Cup The country has pulled back from World Cup preparations after U.S. military attack.

i think it's pretty obvious at this point we should not be hosting the world cup, but of course, i also understand what FIFA is www.politico.com/news/2026/03...

he's on his way out the door, and I'm not trying to read any momentum-shift into this. it's just: a lot of them deserve this kind of contempt from senators for reasons that *should* be nonpartisan but have basically not been in a long time.

But if the yearning Talarico taps into wasn’t real, your relatives would not have sent you his videos. For decades, Democrats have longed for messengers, real and imaginary, who can defuse the power of the Christian right. At the apex of the Moral Majority, Aaron Sorkin wrote the West Wing’s Jeb Bartlett as a spiritual foil who quoted Leviticus chapter-and-verse to hypocritical Bible-thumpers. George W. Bush’s real-life successor wrote a bestselling memoir named for the sermon that changed his life. The West Wing, for its part, ended with the only fantasy more persistent than beating a bunch of theocrats at Bible Bonkersβ€”a Democrat rising from obscurity and turning Texas blue."
