Re-energizing Europe IMF Managing Director spoke at the European Commission about re-energizing Europe, why it matters, and how it can be done.

“Europe’s convergence engine is stalling. It is held back by an incomplete single market and complacency about what it takes to compete in today’s and tomorrow’s world.” www.imf.org/en/news/arti...

Thanks to @comfortero.crisisgroup.org and Olof Skoog (EEAS) for an insightful discussion today at ICG's "10 conflicts to Watch" event. We hear you Comfort: in a world shaped by spheres of influence 🇪🇺's strength is precisely its soft power. Though good that Europe also has hard power.

I am neither good at Boccia nor archery, but this tournament was far from frustrating. @EU_FPI has been supporting 🇺🇦 veterans since before 🇷🇺 full-scale invasion. Adaptive sports can be key for rehabilitation and it was good to see how CSOs like Вільні Воїни work in this area.

The End of the Age of NGOs? How civil society lost its post–Cold War power.

Food for thought: „the NGO sector has less political opportunity and capacity than it once had. And in many cases, NGOs have not just lost power relative to previous decades. States have clawed that power back. The result is an end to the era of NGOs“.

Will Russia attack beyond Ukraine? - New Eastern Europe Europe has all the necessary resources to defend itself. The problem is that governments and societies do not see that war is inching closer.

„in the new world of the “right of force”, American, Russian and Chinese interests coincide. (…) They want a Europe that is not an independent centre of power but only a set of markets in which they can trade profitably.“ neweasterneurope.eu/2025/07/24/w...

Silence is no longer an option: the West must rethink its Ukraine policy There were two reasons that forced President Zelenskyy to change direction and agree to reverse a law that would have seriously jeopardised Ukraine’s future within Europe.

“The moratorium on criticism that has been in place for the past three and a half years had a rationale for Ukraine’s allies. (…) But a total absence of criticism harms #Ukraine. It undermines reforms. It kills the future.” www.eurointegration.com.ua/eng/articles...
