This image was taken 100 years ago in 1925. It’s one of a number featured in an album of photographs taken of Tonypandy Secondary School in the Rhondda Valleys.

This photo shows the school’s student teachers for the year 1924-25, with the Headmaster seated at the centre.

Tynnwyd y llun yma 100 mlynedd yn ôl ym 1925. Mae’n un o nifer sy’n ymddangos o fewn albwm o luniau o Ysgol Uwchradd Tonypandy yng Nghwm Rhondda.

Gwent Archives needs your help! Over the last few months we have been working with the 'Divergent Minds in the Archives' project.

Led by a group of neurodivergent humanities academics and over the course of a series of workshops, a guide has been produced for visiting Gwent Archives.

Today is World Smile Day

And there are plenty of smiling faces in this photograph of the girls and boys football teams at St Patrick’s School in Grangetown, Cardiff. The photo shows the girls, proud winners of the Bamment Cup, and the boys with the Sol Phillips Shield.

Television Comes to South Wales!

Today’s the centenary of the transmission of the 1st television pictures on 2 Oct 1925

In Aug 1952 guests gathered at Glamorgan County Hall to celebrate the opening of a new transmitting station at Wenvoe which brought TV to parts of South Wales for the first time.

Today is the International Day of Older Persons

This image from the National Coal Board collection was taken 70yrs ago in 1955. It shows the presentation of a key at the opening of the Old Aged People’s Hall at Caerau nr Maesteg. In the background is a poster for the 3rd Wales Older People’s Week.

It’s been great to welcome pupils from St Philip Evans RC Primary in Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, to the Archives this week. Together we discovered more about life in Cardiff during the Second World War.

Today we held our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning. Thanks to staff and volunteers for baking and contributing. Here are just a few of the delicious cakes baked by our talented team.

This is a scale drawing of the King George V Locomotive constructed by the Dowlais Iron Company in 1907. It was renamed in 1912 on the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to the Iron Works.
