In this photo we see pupils at work in the physics laboratory at Tonypandy Secondary School. The photo forms part of an album compiled in 1925 featuring pupils, staff and activities across the school.

Crufts begins today in Birmingham. This photo shows two children with their pet dog. It’s one of a number in the collection featuring children and families with their pets. The photos were taken in Maesteg during the early part of the 20th century but other than that we know very little about them.

It’s Women’s History Month
Glamorgan Archives holds a large collection of records created by the Women’s Institute. Including a wonderful series of scrapbooks produced by branches in 1965 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of Britain’s first WI branch at Llanfairpwll, Anglesey.

It’s been great to welcome two classes from Willowbrook Primary in St Mellons to the Archives this week.

They visited to find out more about life in Cardiff during the Second World War. And they also got to take a peek behind the scenes into the strongrooms. We hope you enjoyed!

Nod yr ymweliad oedd darganfod mwy am fywyd yng Nghaerdydd yn ystod yr Ail Ryfel Byd. Hefyd, cafwyd cyfle i gael cip tu ôl i’r llen i’r ystafelloedd sicr. Gobeithio i chi fwynhau!

Among the guests were Dr John James, Glamorgan County Chief Education Official, and Alderman Rose Davies JP, a member of the school’s governing body, also the first woman member and alderman of Glamorgan County Council and one of the first three women Justices of the Peace in Wales.

On this day 100 years ago, on 25 February 1926, Aberdare Girls County School held its annual distribution of prizes and certificates. There was a full programme, including signing and addresses by invited guests.

Ymhlith y gwesteion oedd Dr John James, Prif Swyddog Addysg Sir Forgannwg, a’r Aldramon Rose Davies YH, aelod o gorff llywodraethu’r ysgol, a hefyd y fenyw gyntaf i’r ethol yn aelod ac aldramon o Gyngor Sir Forgannwg ac yn o’r tair menyw gyntaf i fod yn Ynad Heddwch yng Nghymru.

Ar y dydd hwn 100 mlynedd yn ôl, ar 25 Chwefror 1926, cafwyd dosbarthiad gwobrau a thystysgrifau blynyddol Ysgol Sirol i Ferched Aberdâr. Roedd rhaglen lawn, gan gynnwys canu ac anerchiadau gan westeion.

This is a photograph of the No 3 rescue team, shown with their kit and a dummy casualty, at Ynysfaio Colliery, Penyrenglyn, Treherbert. We’re not sure when the photo was taken, but it would have been during the early part of the 20th century.
