“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”
A quote from Martin Luther King, Jr. that I wanted to share today. Optimism is hard some days, but this reflects a belief I share
Pure evil…

Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.
Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.
Do not.
Researchers from UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State are testing drinking water, mold and assessing water security in Buncombe County homes following Hurricane Helene. Testing will take place June 27-28.

Anytime a Western blot worked I breathed a sigh of relief, especially with a new antibody!!!
“The concept of race has little utility as a biological taxonomy. But it is enormously important socially & culturally. Social constructs are how the world works: money & time are both socially constructed too.” - @adamrutherford.bsky.social

Data can be a powerful force to lay bare the inequities in scientific research and the absolute need for diversity.
I’m heartbroken you have to do this and join you in grieving and screaming
Scientists must push back against the threat of rising white nationalism and the dangerous and pseudoscientific ideas of eugenics

There is no such thing as public health without health equity. Equity is the part of public health that makes it, well, public! It’s a core value. Very disappointed in my Alma Mater here. And as we’ve seen countless times, these concessions do nothing to prevent being targeted by this administration
And thank you for being one of the few voices I’ve seen on social media to speak out!
I don’t know what’s more disheartening—the administration cutting DEI and science funding or how quickly institutions and researchers erase any mention of diversity and equity from their materials.
Completely agree. The fact that people are contemplating hiding their DEI efforts is so heartbreaking and damaging.
I leaked out of the scientific pipeline 20 years ago and returned 5 years ago, dismayed to find the same barriers for mothers and marginalized folks. Now, under the guise of efficiency, the US scientific system is set to become even harsher—I’m incredibly discouraged but trying not to give up.
Ahead of our upcoming event this Wed at 10AM ET/3PM CET, please share what YOU think institutions should change to better support mothers in STEMM. Comment 👇
What’s the most impactful workplace policy moms need?
🔹 Flexible work
🔹 Paid parental leave
🔹 Childcare support
🔹 Tackle bias in promotions
This is why capitalism and patriarchy go hand-in-hand.
And why "Lean In" only works for privileged women who can afford to outsource most or all of their caregiving labor, pushing it onto other women--often women of color--more vulnerable than them.

The celebration of "hardcore" work culture is keeping us from gender equality.
If men can only be "successful" by working so much they're eating every meal at the office, then they have incentive to avoid any care work that might pull them away. Which means pushing all the care onto women instead.
