Absolutely bang on by @jonathanliew.bsky.social

The Mail calls out racism on its back page, while promoting unsubstantiated, outright racism on its front page.

Matt Goodwin is running: the search for Reform’s elusive byelection candidate Nigel Farage’s man in Gorton and Denton has a huge public platform, and a taste for culture war. What happens when he concerns himself with bin collections?

Slightly buried in this excellent piece is the fact that Goodwin shares Stephen Miller’s love of the US 1924 Immigration Act - the one admired by Hitler and the reason why so many Jewish refugees (including Anne Frank’s family) were turned away

I would say a very fair point about the media in general, and a very cheap shot at The Guardian, which has gone out of its way to inform people of the dangers of the far-right and what they really mean and represent, often risking huge legal repercussions in doing so

declan rice is one of those rare players who gets worse with confidence. the key is to deflate him at every opportunity. do not believe in yourself, bro. you cannot do anything you set your mind to. leave his tyres unpumped. make him feel like zero dollars.

VinΓcius, Mourinho and treating racism as reputational risk rather than a lived reality | Jonathan Liew The Brazilian has seen this before, football has seen this before and yet why does it feel like nothing ever changes? JosΓ© Mourinho: against provoking opposition fans. JosΓ© Mourinho: in favour of restrained celebrations. JosΓ© Mourinho, once of the poke-in-the-eye, sprint-down-the-touchline, accost-the-referee-in-the-car-park school of footballing expression: now apparently very big on showing respect to the game. Well, it seems like we’ve all been on a journey here. β€œI told him the biggest person in the history of this club was Black,” Mourinho recounted when asked about his conversation with VinΓcius JΓΊnior on Tuesday night. β€œThis club, the last thing that it is, is racist.” And doubtless these words will have been a profound source of comfort to VinΓcius in his lowest moment, having been insulted on the pitch by an opposition player in a Champions League playoff.
