Last month, 70 representatives of grassroots groups, Indigenous Peoples’ organisations & civil society organizations - from 40 different countries - joined the our Coalition #MembersGathering in Nairobi, Kenya.

NRT nature conservancies serve as tourist parks and "carbon removal projects", used by companies like @netflix.com & Meta to offset their emissions. NRT says it supports local institutions "led by and serving Indigenous communities". However, voices from the ground tell a different story.

In Isiolo county, #Kenya, #Indigenous communities are speaking out against the human rights abuses faced in the context of the conservancy areas managed by Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) and taking legal actions to defend their rights.

✔️ An independent investigation into the harms caused
✔️ Concrete coal phase-out and just energy transition plans
✔️ Redress for the affected communities
✔️ An immediate halt to further PLN financing until these conditions are met
The banks (ANZ, SMBC Group, Mizuho, MUFG) are accused of failing to conduct adequate due diligence while funding PLN, leading to:
❌+6,720 premature deaths annually
❌severe air pollution & $4.7 billion in health costs
❌violations of right to life, health & clean environment
