Our report, “‘I will do anything to stay here’: What a Just Energy Transition Means to Communities at Risk from Bauxite Mining in Guinea,” is out, telling the stories of people at risk from the expansion of one of the world’s largest bauxite mines.

While a rapid shift to renewable energy use is imperative, transition mineral mining, large-scale renewable energy infrastructure and related projects are enormously land-intensive, and current approaches to land acquisition for routinely lead to forced displacement and other rights violations.

As #COP30 comes to a close, the need for a #justenergytransition that centers the perspectives of communities whose land and resources are impacted by energy transition projects has never been clearer or more urgent.

An approach to engaging project-affected people that is rooted in respect for their dignity, knowledge and capabilities to make their own development choices, is actually not such a radical proposition. It just means giving effect to commitments many institutions and companies already make.
