bought some nes consoles that purportedly didn't power on at all thinking i'd get to have some fun with the power module on them. they all just needed their cartridge readers bent back in to place? not even cleaned (but i did do that anyway). my collection grows

back of the motherboard. there is a glob of hot glue "precision-placed" to hold the touch screen ribbon in place that needs to be pushed down by the opposite end of the case.

another nds lite reshelled. this one didn't have either screen working, so both of these screens are chinese replacements.

the touch digitizer connector clamp on the mother board was snapped off, so i had to use a tactical hot glue glob to hold it in place (it is pushed on by the other side)

my high school mandated that everyone's password be their birthday in a specific format. including teachers. i know it's changed since i have siblings that went there but through 2019 that was the case. got called into the office for "hacking" by accessing my siblings' grades accounts for my mother

finally went directly to china to get screens and suddenly it works fine! and it was cheaper! and it's a bottom screen with an adapter but it works! i will be learning mandarin

bought 4 nds lites listed as for parts/repair and they all just work? hinges aren't even broken or anything. one even has the gba slot cover and a stylus. how pleasant.

i am 40 hours in on a playthrough that has taken over a year. it took 3 hours before i ran into any fights. it is an insane grind

not sure on when either will be complete, both projects are kinda just getting picked away at as we go. i'm working to fix the bugs in hg-engine, marked as urgent are the crashes.

ah yes--buy a nds lite screen! surely all of the pixels will work perfectly because these terrible replacements cost like half a console anyway. i booted chrono trigger w the magenta pixel, and it actually just pops out at you. maybe third time is the charm.

hg-engine will be in development for some time. emerald ds i've basically got the whole thing mapped, just need to do a bunch of scripting and fix bugs for hg-engine. that latter bit has been my main priority

got my childhood ds systems. both succumbed to water damage back in the day--literally 2012 and earlier. bottom screen from the older one and top screen from the later one makes for a functional ds lite! really happy to make something out of these and to use the ds again

bought a gameboy color that had its batteries leak over the board and break the traces for the A and B buttons because these early revisions of the board have the metal go through the test point which allowed this to happen. fixed her up with my terrible soldering iron that balls the metal terribly
