BSAC HQ had a great visit to Merseyside Sub Aqua Club Branch 5 last night! Sophie, Sandra and Mary met with 22 club members who came along to learn more about Sport 80, the system behind MyBSAC.

A BSAC Marine Champion has signed up to help an oyster restoration project in North Wales with the aim of boosting the number of oysters in our native waters. 🦪
Mel Hough-Milton recently spent a weekend volunteering to monitor oysters in the harbour in Conwy Bay marina. 🙌

BSAC divers rolled up their sleeves (and fins!) to help protect Llyn Padarn.
Over 3 dates and multiple dives, invasive plants Lagarosiphon major and Elodea nuttallii were carefully removed, helping native species thrive. 🌱

Angela Parker, co-founder of the British diving equipment manufacturer AP Diving, sadly passed away in December at the age of 88 following a short illness.
The team at BSAC sends our condolences to the Parker family, and all of Angela's friends and colleagues. 💙
A rare loggerhead turtle that was found washed up in Jersey cold-stunned has now been transferred to a sea life centre in Dorset for rehabilitation! The turtle was being cared for in Jersey before being flown to England. 🐢

Llyn Padarn is more than a beautiful lake, it's a lifeline for local wildlife, recreation, and tourism here in Llanberis. 🙌
BSAC volunteers have been working together with Parc Padarn in taking proactive steps to protect it from invasive species and preserve its future. 💙
BSAC's Southern Regional Coaching team has been bolstered by the addition of Oliver Meaden. 🙌
Oliver - known as Ollie - brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked his way up to Advanced Diver and Open Water instructor over a 25-year diving history. 👌

While on a recent trip to Japan, BSAC National Diving Officer Sophie Rennie was able to meet with BSAC Japan National Diving Officer Nnao and CEO Shun. 🇯🇵

More than 30 divers from seven BSAC clubs came together for a final ‘dive with a purpose’ of 2025, clearing invasive weed from a lake in Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park. 🌱

This time University of Portsmouth Sub Aqua Club were the ones receiving their certificate - with Julia from HQ presenting it to the club’s president, Josh Tuff. 👌
BSAC is sad to learn of the passing of Richard Larn OBE at the age of 94.
Richard was a pioneer in shipwreck diving and maritime history around the British Isles and leaves behind an important legacy. He was BSAC’s deputy diving officer in 1961 and 1962, after joining in 1957. Rest in peace. 💙
Big congratulations to Milton Keynes Sub-Aqua Club on their club’s 50th anniversary! 🥳
A certificate was received by two of the club’s founding members, as well as one of the club’s youngest members -10 year-old Gabriel!
A huge well done to BSAC club Cayman Islands Divers who have finished what they started and cleaned up and entire beach blighted by discarded polystyrene. 🙌
The club had previously removed 28 bin bags full of waste in November. 👏

🌱 Seagrass "fairy circles" have been discovered on the seabed in the Sound of Barra in Scotland’s Western Isles!
👉 NatureScot said it was not known why the plants grew in circular shapes rather than the usual meadows, but added that the formations were rarely seen.
Congratulations to Cornwall-based marine conservation charity Fathoms Free who have been awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS)! 🥳
Equivalent to an MBE, this is the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK. 🙌
