No guarantees for any number of jobs or any local jobs. Hope the Region of Waterloo is paying attention.

Data centers are not worth the impact on electricity demand, water consumption and the environment even if they do create a handful of jobs.

Between this & zero traffic deaths in Helsinki last year....

The simple truth that's somehow utterly unintelligible to capitalism & those in its thrall is that doing the right thing by the vulnerable (be they houseless, pedestrians, or anything else) makes the world BETTER FOR EVERYONE.

Yes, we’ve added a bunch more cars and grown the network footprint nicely over the past few years. Growth is incremental though, and we’re always 👀 data. My best advice is to join on Open Plan with per trip Damage Protection, then no $$ unless you drive, and you show up on our member map!

Framing All-Gums-No-Soul's death as "unwarranted political violence against a dude who just loved to debate people" normalizes his extremist views.

Am I surprised that an anti-choice woman led the "Boo Hoo, the Witch is dead!" statements in the House? No. But am I still outraged? Yup!

I worry that the way NON-right-wing media and politicians have been going overboard “honouring” Charlie Kirk’s life after his unquestionably horrible death may be doing more to normalize Kirk’s white nationalism, many intolerances, & blatantly anti-democratic work than most things we’ve seen so far.

Something the municipal governments implementing speed cameras know and the speed camera haters don't want you to know is that travel time from point A to point B on city streets has more to do with capacity & volumes at intersections than with your maximum speed in between them

Yearly unpopular reminder that you should never post photos of your kids online, but if you're going to, you should ask them for consent.

When we role model that ALL photos require consent before sharing, we actively dismantle a culture that has normalized leaking nudes.

*we don’t have phones anymore, really. We have incredibly small and powerful computers that we can also take calls on.

This is a detailed and sweeping article about the history and demise of Northern Pulp.

Unless you've seen that one clip from the West Wing, it may be hard to picture the sheer breadth of Africa based on the maps you're most familiar with, so here's the real sizes of Australia *and* the United States *and* China *and* Greenland *and* Scandinavia relative to Africa on a Mercator map.

It’s weird to me that people keep starting new Substacks and still don’t know that Substack is extremely bad news

Please get off Substack 😭

You probably won’t be shocked to hear that after losing his seat in the Canadian election & barely putting any effort into his safe seat “campaign” in Alberta that he needs, Pierre Poilievre STILL refuses to complete the normal security check and try to get the standard, ordinary security clearance.

Carney condemns Israel for failing to prevent humanitarian crisis in Gaza The prime minister’s statement is the latest sign of rising international alarm over the starvation and deaths of civilians in the besieged Palestinian territory.

They’re not failing to prevent it Mark, they’re purposefully causing it! Starving and executing an entire population while you gently wag your finger

Unacceptable to do so little against these constant genocidal acts. When will this government suspend the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement, impose sanctions on Netanyahu, and press for international interventions to stop this.

Friends of Bluesky 🦋, my friend Mark needs a helping hand. He’s a tireless cycling safety advocate in Hamilton and beyond, and if you have the means to send some cash his way, I’d be so grateful. 💕🙏

Today, Parliament passed Bill C-5 — fast-tracking “national interest” projects while sidelining science, public input, and Indigenous rights.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Reporter: How did the Israelis treat you, we saw them giving sandwiches?
Greta Thunberg: They probably have posted lots of PR stunts, they did an illegal act by kidnapping us in international waters but that’s not the real story here. The real story is the genocide in Gaza and systematic starvation.
Reporter: Are you worried about the others?
Greta: Yes…I’m calling for everyone who can to mobilize to demand their immediate release and, of course, to demand not only humanitarian aid being let into Gaza but also a ceasefire and most importantly an end to the occupation, an end to the systemic oppression and violence that Palestinians are facing on an everyday basis.
Reporter: “Why do you think so many countries and governments around the world are just ignoring what’s happening in Gaza?”
Greta Thunberg: “Because of racism.”

This is how.

Greta Thunberg spits fire and gives you the only media training you may ever need.
