Technically ー (long vowel mark, like in ホールケーキ) and 一 (ichi) are different characters. Just mentioning because I noticed it messing with stuff like the 10ten Reader extension, and I'd assume it makes it harder to type when the IME can't predict the word.

She does straightforwardly say メルヘン now and again, but the majority of the time, it's phrases like 稀有な事もあるものですね where 稀有 (rare, uncommon) has the furigana reading of メルヘン, meaning when speaking aloud she substitutes other concepts for "fairytale(y)". How we translate that depends highly on the line.
