That would be so good. And an option to not have the subtitles jump all over the screen blocking the action (Netflix Drive to Survive does this).

I can imagine this government doing exactly that, personally. I trust them not one jot. I think it's a Pandora's box they're opening where life gets cheaper and cheaper.

Not one Disability organisation I've seen backs this. Hospices are worried. The slipperly slope of what is deemed suffering proven in Canada (www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...)
The NHS and GP service is on its backside. And we think people will get a good service in this? Life is cheap in the UK.
There won't be. The NHS and GP services are on their backside. Not one Disability organisation I've seen backs this. Hospices are very worried. The slippery slope of Canada is terrifying.

Nice idea. SEGA had some method of making QTE events progressively easier I recall around 2001, if you kept getting stuck. Never a complete skip though.

Even if we could keep the machines in a subservient position, for instance by turning off the power at strategic moments, we should, as a species, feel greatly humbled."
14.06.2025 08:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0I think both are true (plus upbringing etc.). The state allowed the universities to run as freely as they did back then. The state supported work at Bletchley and the NPL (plus the other less-sung geniuses there) key to his legend. A genius among many others. No man an island.
14.06.2025 08:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Future generations may end up seeing Turing as a villain when it comes to his contribution to AI and computing. Especially so if we end up in some jobless dystopia.
I don't see him as that, but then I've got 2025 specs on.
The British state was also the making of him and his legend just to add to the complex tale. Obviously, chemical castration unacceptable today. But what do we do now that future generations will be horrified by? Lots. A tragic end without doubt. I do wonder what he'd make of AI today.
13.06.2025 14:56 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Very far from single-handed to be fair. But he did brilliant, important work, no doubt about it.
13.06.2025 11:37 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0There's no cast-iron proof that the British state drove him to suicide. Reflections of Alan Turing: A Relative Story by Dermot Turing is another view. His Mum thought the death may have been accidental. It's not black and white.
