Just call them "Peeping Toms"
...catchy enough to stick.
Turns out cars are literally driving the squirrels nuts.
By ‘mobilisation’ do you mean tactical voting? Or could it just be that more people preferred Green? If there were more Reform voters, why didn’t they turn up?
The truth Will out!
There’s a certain confidence in breaking a clear rule, getting fined then taking your outrage to the local press. Occasionally the real story isn’t the ticket, it’s the unintended public case study in how not to handle being wrong. Sometimes the appeal process writes itself.
Attempted manslaughter by probability. The only thing preventing funerals was luck. Courts punish outcomes, not risk and intent. Half a second later and this is a fatality headline. The message to reckless drivers is simple: as long as nobody dies, you’ll be fine...and get to keep your license.
Utopia is a bit of a stretch...but yeah, at 51, that's basically how it feels to me too.
It's kinda giving that Germany 1936-1938 vibe, to be honest.
Very on brand, very Orwellian. Lovely name, much less lovely function.
Last time I saw something like that in America, they were chasing Santa with a broken sleigh through Central Park. Sad times.
Top tip. FatFace and Boots go half price on Boxing Day. Family can wait for socks and smellies. Everyone’s a winner.
Funny how 'I’m just looking at the time' always shows up when the points stop being convenient, but coherently challenging...and answering a woman guest to 'go have more babies' isn’t just shallow to pretend the answer is obvious, when it isn’t...its also it’s weirdly tone-deaf.
I’m not sure 'being in power' should mean leaders operating under a softer moral standard. Diplomatic caution explains careful phrasing and not weaker commitments on human rights. Otherwise we’re just normalising double standards at the top?
This clearly isn’t about SUVs anymore. I’ll leave you to your broader argument.
You brought children into a discussion about SUVs, then objected when people replied to that comparison.
That’s the issue here.
Also worth noting that children and families are literally how societies continue to exist. Buying an oversized city SUV is not performing the same function. That comparison doesn’t really do the work you think it does.
...unless, of course one is shifting linguistic register upwards on purpose to invite the reader to notice that shift and share the joke. Or in other words... calling something fancy while clearly taking the piss.
What, this book? Yep. It’s in my pre-ride hype tool kit as I’ve got it lined up as inspiration for my Lôn Las Cymru trip next July.
Mental note: Add 3-ft length of pipe excuse to the SUV list, including (but not limited to) “refrigerator” and “taking a big blind dog to the vet.”
We need this in #Cardiff for the North Rd to Talybont cycle path. I came a cropper on wet leaves couple of years back avoiding pedestrians (no blame) walking in the cycle lane and my shoulder never really recovered even with physio. @cardiffcouncil.bsky.social #justsaying
The anticipation of open the double doored window on the 24th was off the scale!
These questions aren’t an attack on driving. They’re a lens. Essential things rarely insist on taking up more space than they need. When a journey needs speed, bulk or a sense of aspirational status to feel valid, you’ve already crossed from necessity into desire.
One of the benefits of a default urban/village 20mph limit is that it unlocks initiatives which would not be possible in higher speed 30mph streets. Wales is planning that local authorities can install simple and cheaper pedestrian crossings at side roads to align with Highway Code.
There’s been some great work in Canton, Cardiff with the raised side road pavements. These new zebras look like a cheaper way to scale that idea across the city while getting much of the same benefit.
It is a weird bit of arrogance to lump walkers, cyclists and bus users into some low value block who do not vote. Almost everyone is a pedestrian and plenty of cyclists and bus riders also own cars. Reducing them to a single poor and irrelevant group says more about the commenter than about reality.
2016 is when everything turned into a bit of a shit sandwich. Celebrity deaths, Brexit, Trump, algorithms. It’s the year when platforms, politics and populist tactics all aligned and we’ve basically been paying, quite literally, for the mess of it all ever since.
I’m on a few Cardiff History Facebook groups and the rose tinted nostalgia is wild. I was born in 1975 and my lived experience is that Cardiff was a shit hole until around 1992. The very photos they swoon over show that clearly yet they’re still completely blinkered by it...but yes, fewer cars!
Exactly. Also, children do not teleport from their home to the school gates. They still have to walk, cross roads and move through their neighbourhoods. 20mph needs to apply to streets around schools as well, not just the bit right outside the entrance. But sure, won’t someone think of the drivers.
This car is probably very well designed for a specific niche purpose...and no, I don't mean the school run.
