Cold take: I think Mansfield and the surrounding area should be transformed into a medium-density city of 1-2 million with the rail link to Melbourne closed in 1978 reinstated, and a suburban heavy or light rail system to serve all the new suburbs that would develop in the area circled in yellow.

One thing that has surprised me; the sheer amount to glue and other things on the frame that accumulated over the years 🥴

Several not so family-friendly words were spoken

Over 30 years ago, iirc Clifton Hill trains used platforms 15 and 16 (both dead-end), City Circle trains used platform 2 or 3 with the Burnley group using platforms 3 or 4 (and 6 for direct services)

It's more a case of Caulfield trains *can* use platform 1 but likely wouldn't do so except in rare circumstances.

anyway, time for country trains to return to platform 1 like the good ol' days before all the crossovers were idiotically rationalised to allow fed square to be built.

Richmond Junction Flyover; taking the Burnley local and Burnley through lines over the Caulfield through and Caulfield local lines, leading to the Burnley group using Flinders Street platforms 6-10 and Caulfield lines using platforms 1-4.

Only disappointment is the 15 minute frequencies on weekends, makes for a long wait if you happen to miss the tram :/

Geelong trains really should stop at Ardeer on weekends, it’s kinda ridiculous how a station in the middle of suburbia only gets a train every hour!!

Heck, even Little River gets a better service than Ardeer!!

Why on earth does Ardeer get only one train per hour while Deer Park gets heaps more??
