We’re trying to buy our first house (ok, apartment ) in Sydney and yes it’s hugely difficult as we have no guarantor and we’ve been saving for years.

But not a single mortgage broker has said we need 20% deposit - 10% is fine, and you don’t even need a deposit with a guarantor.
