A dear friend of mine asked me whether the BBNJ Agreement was pure symbol politics (‘symboolpolitiek’ in Dutch). My short answer is 'no'. This blog post is not aimed at experts in the law of the sea, and it does not aim to be an in-depth legal analysis, nor take a (legal) deep dive into (2/4)
