There's that, yes. People don't just vote with their dollars though. They also vote with their time. I think the short term solution is supporting independent journalists who had the courage to leave when they realized the MSM was compromised by the oligarchy.

I'm sure he is, but facing facts, we like to talk about having the 'illusion' of choice in politics. Newsom and the establishment wing of the Democratic Party represent exactly that. When he announces, I'm sure people will like him, but he's still more of the same.

In the meantime, don't use my tax dollars to bail out corporations and banks teetering on the edge of bankruptcy because they made bad investments.

If any of us found ourselves in those circumstances, you'd tell us to suck it up and work it off.

Well there came a point in the mid 80s when our most populous generation decided it was too much to ask for them to have empathy for total strangers. They collectively decided they were the only people who mattered and our policy has been garbage ever since.

We're not. But the health insurance industry has both major parties in this country in their pockets. At a certain point voting ceases to matter because big money talks in Washington. Our one real hope is in primarying all the fossils out and replacing them with people who actually care.

Better yet, eliminate PACs and Super PACs, and outlaw stock trading by sitting congressmen. The root of our crisis of corruption is the ability of our representatives to enrich themselves by providing kickbacks to billionaires, so let's just do away with all of it.

I'd say it was a combination of uneducated white people choosing latino immigrants as a scapegoat for problems they created for themselves; and independent voters deciding a woman who laughs a lot and didn't primary was as bad as a known sexual predator and con artist, then refusing to vote at all.

Unfortunately his base is made up of the high school dropouts who never left their hometowns and are terrified of going any further than the outer ring suburbs surrounding the major city nearest them. Some of these people have never been beyond 30 miles of their hometown and it shows.

Nixon didn't make things better, but his policy centered on attempting to scale back our involvement in the conflict, and it ultimately ended with The Fall of Saigon after Gerald Ford assumed office. I'd argue all three sucked for that.

Tbh Nixon was a scumbag but he wasn't actually all that bad on policy. He was probably the most influential president we had until Obama on public health, for instance. Dialysis is free because of him. I mean he was also violently racist and a crook, but his legacy is still way better than Trump's.
