Actually, I asked this in a public RPG Discord and nope, I was wrong lol.

A lot of people want evil races because it makes Drizzt more interesting, they get to explore being racially otherized, and/or it makes the game feel "classic".

* I think there's something to say about human/racial/societal exceptionalism in fantasy - but that takes more time to approach IMO.

I keep seeing people who want "evil races" but want them to be almost an unknowable force? Almost elemental and eldritch?

I think that's fine* but then why so often the urge to give them human-like signifiers? Clothes, language, social hierarchy?
