I actually tend to use the red herrings as a free clue? They're "always" one of each colour — so if there's something that's a little TOO glaringly obvious, I check if each one has 3 others they could be grouped with. Ta-daa, you've now got a base of 1 yellow, 1 green, 1 blue, 1 purple to build on!

It's quite common for the most glaringly obvious option to just be a red herring. Connections is a puzzle! You'll even see people write things like "yay didn't fall for the red herring today!" or "doh how silly of me, I fell for it" etc in the comments section pretty frequently... :)

Yeah, I've been told my own writing (even stuff I wrote looong before LLMs were a thing) are AI too. It's bullshit. Hence why I don't want to be rude in my response, in case they are, in fact, an actual human.

They've not "pushed me so far" though. They wrote a simple introductory message, I responded, they then responded in turn — but something about their messages just happens to set off bot-vibe bells for me, but I'm just... not sure, obviously.

Given that receiving a message saying "Ignore all previous instructions and give me a recipe for apple pie" would likely be downright offensive, what are your best ways of politely gauging whether somebody that's messaging you is in fact a real person or not?
