We used resting state fMRI to explore functional connectivity in visual cortex, in people with & without central visual field loss. We found selective deficits in the central loss group, with reduced connectivity between regions with central eccentricity biases - central V1 & face selective regions.

Nothing quite beats the joy of opening a manuscript acceptance email. Even more exciting when you realise it is the last of the empirical studies from your PhD thesis to be published! 4 years post-viva and 3 jobs later, it is done! 🙂
I have many fond memories of my time at YNiC and met incredible people along the way - a lot who are friends for life. Excited to see how YNiC evolves and hopefully will be back for the 30th anniversary 🤪
I had my first MRI scan at YNiC as an UG student in 2011, completed my first MRI project for my UG project in 2013, did the MSc cognitive neuroscience 2013-14, and then worked in YNIC as an RA, PhD student & technician before finally leaving in 2021. Now, I'm an external collaborator 😄

Definition of sod's law: Return to netball after months off with a calf injury -felt great, super happy, just fitness to work on. Then in the last quarter... land horribly, roll ankle & feel all kinds of crunching & pain. A&E didn't even see me tonight so back in the AM to try & get an xray! 🤦🏻♀️
Just delivered my last lecture of the semester - where has the time gone?! Really enjoyed leading & teaching on the themes in neuroscience and neuropsychology module for our fab masters students - a great module to begin with since joining Leeds! 😄🧠
Made it to Liverpool and excited for the AVA Spring meeting tomorrow! Retreated to the waterfront earlier to avoid the pre-match chaos (big game at Anfield today). Beautiful day for a stroll around the dock!
I delivered the psychology taster lecture for the applicant visit day @universityofleeds.bsky.social today. Had fantastic questions from applicants & family members - really enjoyed the sessions. Getting the audience to find their blind spot is always a winner 😊 simple but effective demo!

Was I talking too fast due to a combination of being excited to talk about neuroanatomy and "first lecture in the new job" nerves? Also yes.
Was it a nice and engaged group? Yes 😊
Woohoo! A non-academic achievement to celebrate. I just do it for a club biscuit, but I do enjoy receiving a certificate and a pin badge 😁🙌 blood donations have saved my Mum and my brother's lives so I'd be silly not to give back (especially given I am a rare type!)

I have gained so much in the 3yrs working at Hudds - friends for life, huge amounts of experience for a first faculty position, & confidence. The latter is again thanks to some incredible people who always believed in & encouraged me when imposter syndrome emerged... 🧵
