The image of Messier 106 shows a spiral galaxy with a bright, glowing nucleus surrounded by well-defined spiral arms. The main arms are dense with stars and appear bright, while two additional, fainter and reddish arms emerge from the center, composed of hot gas. The galactic disk is broad, with shades of blue and white in the stellar regions and red details in the excited gas regions. The background is dark, dotted with distant stars and faint nebulosity.
