Also spoke to Charlotte’s dad this week after she was rushed to a hospital in Alicante where she remains in critical condition - he told me it’d be weeks before there were even discussions about the teen coming home 🚨
A mum has hit out at the NHS after her terminally ill son was left in a corridor for 14 hours as John Swinney announced he was taking a “direct” approach to dealing with the health service crisis 🚨
Wave of youth violence continues as Aaliyah who was jumped by a gang of teens while travelling home from work backs our campaign 🚨
Or is it simply the case that there is room for both? Any evolution in the current landscape is encouraging to see but a large basis of some newsletters seems to take news from mainstream sites, rehash it, link back and deliver without the ads then gain income from subscriptions
I’d like to understand more about how sustainable newsletters are as a source, folk will still look for breaking news and are used to receiving it in real time which takes a lot of work and resources so aside from delivering in depth content / round ups how will they keep up?
As the industry is constantly adapting to new technology and audience consumption methods it can be both fascinating + terrifying as a young* journalist, one thing that is on the increase in the last year or so is newsletters for readers with the promise of a clutter free service

Organisers behind Edinburgh's Hogmanay events urging the public not to come into the city centre unless you are "attending an event or venue" 🚨
More than halfway through my last shift of 2024 then we'll be heading out to see what's happening in Edinburgh city centre and hopefully bring in the bells on Calton Hill🎆
Lots of locals reminiscing about Hogmanay’s spent at the Tron long before it was heavily commercialised - also long before my time but will be interesting to see if there are any crowds braving the weather to bring back some nostalgic NYE magic tonight
Organisers have rearranged for Hot Dub Time Machine who was due to play tonight to perform at the Assembly Hall tomorrow but tickets are £55+ when original tickets were only £33 leaving many scunnered
“The cancellation includes tonight's Night Afore Disco Party in West Princes Street Gardens, and on the 31st December, the Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party, Concert in the Gardens, and the Midnight Fireworks from Edinburgh Castle.”
An Edinburgh's Hogmanay spokesperson said: “Due to ongoing high winds and inclement weather in Edinburgh city centre, we regret to announce that outdoor events scheduled for tonight (30th Dec) and the 31st December are unable to go ahead on the grounds of public safety.
I believe the last time this happened was over ten years ago and will be interesting to see if crowds still gather tomorrow on Calton Hill for the bells
Just in 🚨 all Hogmanay events in Edinburgh tonight and tomorrow have been cancelled due to high winds including the midnight fireworks display
The Christmas tree on The Mound is one of those annual institutions you kind of take for granted but I passed it by the other day and it inevitably got me thinking about how far back such a tradition of public Christmas Trees goes in Edinburgh 🎄
Shall we take a thread and find out? 🧵▶️
Avanti have said they are "disappointed" that staff rejected the "very reasonable" offer and confirmed strike action will cause significant disruption
This will have a definite impact to tourism across the capital’s New Year festivities - story below 🚨

An RMT spokesperson told us: “Our members have resoundingly rejected Avanti’s latest offers in two referendums and sustained strike action is now the only way to focus management’s minds on reaching a negotiated settlement with the union.”
Avanti West Coast strike action is back on over the festive period including Hogmanay 🚨
Going to make a significant effort to post on here more or at least as much as X - although for sourcing breaking news I still think X is the dominating platform especially among Scottish news
But the Mo’run was still in full swing in a very icy Holyrood Park ❄️
