The magicians that spearheaded the movement in the 70s onwards were definitely thinking about how magia could fit into the conversation of post-modernism amongst all of the anthropological and scientific achievements to date.
I think part of it is misinformation and another part folks perpetuating stereotypes.
There are definitely younger practitioners that see content by self-proclaimed ‘chaos witches’ that promote sloppy thinking and habits… but there are also very self-aware chaotes that like to have a bit of fun.
Sailor Moon says, “Don’t feed the trolls!”
Any interaction, good or bad, motivates bad actors to keep going. Just block and go on with your day!

To many ceremonial magicians, particularly those within the OTO and EGC, chaos magic begins and ends with the word ‘chaos’; they jump to critique and ridicule chaotes without taking the time to actually understand the history and praxis.
I think many younger and newer magicians overlook that there are limitless ways to engage with the weird.
There are certainly popular modalities and paradigms that are shared within niches of the occult community but they are not the only ways people perform and experience magia.

I do admire their confidence though. It took a very long time for me to feel like I could offer anyone any valid magical advice.
Not to demean them or belittle their experiences at all here but the amount of teenagers on that platform that claim to be ‘advanced’ practitioners never ceases to amaze me.
Like, as a 33 year-old child with over two decades of magical work under their belt, I still feel like a beginner at times.
A baby magician on Tumblr offered three months of magical practice as credibility to speak as an authority on a particular topic today.
