Thank you @seiu721.bsky.social for your advocacy and to everyone who took the time out of their schedules to show up and make their voice heard.
In Council District 4, this means that the almost 3,500 people employed by fast food locations would be protected.
This Ordinance will place fast food workers under the City’s existing Fair Work Week law, requiring notice of their schedules two weeks in advance, reducing short notice being on call or for canceled shifts, and increasing overall stability.
Los Angeles is home to 50,000 fast food workers and over half have reported experiencing various forms of wage theft. Two weeks ago, many of these workers came to City Hall to voice support for the Fast Food Fair Work Ordinance.
Thank you to @cd2losangeles.bsky.social for leading on this legislation, and a huge thank you to Stay in LA for your continued advocacy to bring production home!
Let's be a city where dreams come true! 🎬
I hope we can look back on today as a turning point — the moment Los Angeles chose to invest in our industry and our people, and to take pride in shaping culture for the entire world.
The film industry doesn't just create entertainment. It creates union jobs — middle-class jobs — for the people who live here. It creates a city that thrives economically, from the corner restaurant to the prop house equipping film and television productions.
establishing regional MOUs so that productions moving between jurisdictions don't get trapped in conflicting rules; auditing our own permitting system and ensuring ED 11 is actually being implemented; and opening the door for micro-shoots and independent creators.
Today, a package of legislation passed in Council, setting us on the path to keep Hollywood in Hollywood. It tackles the problem from every angle: standardizing the patchwork of neighborhood-by-neighborhood filming conditions that have created uncertainty and delay; (cont.)
That's a policy failure.
We've watched productions migrate elsewhere. We've watched the industry struggle to recover from the impacts of COVID and multiple strikes. And we've watched people leave the industry (and LA!) because they cannot weather an economic downturn in a city that's become unaffordable.
That's not just a tagline. It's an identity built over a century by the writers, directors, crew members, and craftspeople who live and work in our communities. But that identity is now under threat.
My district is the proud home of many of our studios, and my office has worked closely with them for years to help keep their soundstages open and ensure production stays here in Los Angeles — because LA is unquestionably the film capital of the world.
We’ll be exploring the neighborhood’s secret stairs, diving into LA’s rich architectural history, and meeting new friends along the way.

This year, Ramadan also comes at a time when many Muslim families are facing fear, grief, and uncertainty. I want the Muslim community to know that this city stands with you.
Los Angeles is home to one of the most diverse Muslim communities in the country, and Ramadan is a reminder of how deeply Muslim Angelenos contribute to our city.
This is a sacred month for Muslim communities in Los Angeles and around the world. Ramadan is not only a time of fasting and prayer, but a time of compassion and generosity.
Ramadan Mubarak!
This past Friday, in partnership with the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), my office lit up City Hall in a vibrant green to honor Ramadan, a color that symbolizes peace and renewal.
Events like these are not only warm and joyous, but an opportunity for learning and building a world rooted in love and empathy. I am so grateful to Pickle for their care and creativity, and to the Los Feliz Branch Library for always creating a safe space for our children.
Kids were also given the opportunity to ask questions, talk about feelings, and draw their own Valentines cards in an interactive and supportive environment.
Pickle’s rendition of “The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish Swish Swish” to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus” had kids and parents alike singing along and swaying their hips!
Valentine’s Day was extra special this year as I had the opportunity to spend the morning at the Love is Love: Drag Story Hour at the Los Feliz @lapubliclibrary.bsky.social. Hosted by the wonderful Pickle, this was an event full of love and exceptional storytelling that engaged everyone in the room.
