Using a swearword in your Google search can stop the AI answer. But should you? Artificial intelligence is more than Trump deepfakes of Tilly the actor. It’s used in smartphones, customer service, healthcare – even legal cases. Is it possible to avoid?

Fuck yeah you should.

For the past 4 days, I’ve been silent… not because I wanted to, but because I lost my only voice β€” the place where I used to speak to the world.
More talk in the comments….

SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

An entire generation of kids growing up in the 80s was messed up hard by The Exorcist that was aired on television. Allergic to horror, I did not tune in. I can still remember the drawn faces of my friends at school the day after it aired, which was enough to mess me up by secondary effect.

Poster for a talk at city college NY that reads, β€œStripmining History:
How the 'Al' Industry Extracts the Past & What Scholars in the Humanities Can Do to Stop It
IN-PERSON & VIA ZOOM
OCTOBER 16 | 5:00PM - 6:30PM | NAC 6/316
Universities and museums have recently begun partnering with technology firms like Google, Microsoft, and Meta, who have promised that their Al products will enhance both historical research and accessibility to historical collections. These promises, however, are not supported by the reality of what computer vision-a foundational branch of Al-can achieve.
This talk provides an introduction to computer vision's origins in military surveillance, an overview of its development under late capitalist regimes of exploitative micro-labor, and an orientation to how computer vision works. This vision has relied on extracting history, and Drimmer argues that it is the responsibility of scholars in the humanities to be knowledgeable about the forms this extraction takes.

Rising Use of AI in Schools Comes With Big Downsides for Students A report by the Center for Democracy and Technology looks at teachers' and students' experiences with the technology.

β€œOne of the negative consequences AI is having on students is that it is hurting their ability to develop meaningful relationships with teachers, the report finds. Half of the students agree that using AI in class makes them feel less connected to their teachers.”

If you wanted to script a scenario to perfectly vindicate the work of Jean Baudrillard, it would be Trump II.

A simulacra of a president running a simulation of a presidency, based on simulacra of news broadcast by simulations of news media.

Baudrillard is to Trump II what Foucault was to GWB.

New form of "evidence" just dropped. In so many ways, GenAI is reshaping, but mostly destroying, the evidentiary. A status traditionally founded on a high degree of certainty.
