The REACH project celebrated a key milestone with the development of a functional #prototype agent-based model using #AI generated data #simulating how #climate hazards impact #women’s care seeking behaviour and #health facilities.

Our longer-term goal is to develop a robust hybrid model that leverages the strengths of different modelling approaches (system dynamics and agent-based) to capture both demand and supply of maternal and child health services during floods and heatwaves.

This #prototype represents a significant step towards #building a #SDM to assess the impacts of #floods, #heat, and resilience-building interventions on #health #service delivery, focusing on the #processes that drive #supply of services in #Brazil and #Zambia.

What are we aiming to discover through our research?

We are #qualitatively investigating and #mapping the #factors that contribute to both #vulnerability and #resilience in #maternal and #child health (MCH) systems in the face of #floods and extreme #heat.

These efforts represent important progress in generating robust #evidence to inform #health #system responses to extreme heat and flooding—critical issues for #policy and planning in #climate-vulnerable settings.

The #REACH Objective 1 workshop brought together researchers from #Zambia, #Brazil, #UK, and #Sweden to advance #data analyses and refine #statistical methods. Key #outputs included finalised statistical methods and a detailed spreadsheet of primary and comparative analyses.
