What kind of headline is this??

Journalists cannot ethically cover the administration's abnormal actions as "normal" just because they're writing a story about the US Government doing Official US Government Things.

This headline is fit for a routine speech. It was not a routine speech at all.

This administration is constantly doing things it doesn't need to do, not doing things it definitely should do, and risking a lot of needless, meaningless suffering as a result.

This from an administration that is very, very aggressive to people living on the street and opposed to evidence-based housing practices.

Can't wait for the stern rebuke from Democrats this afternoon.

Five beatings of trans women have occurred in Seattle so far this year. The suspects have all been men. In at least one case, random men—strangers—have joined in on the attacks. Depraved shit.

This is very dark stuff, but the primary subject of this story, Madison Carstens, told me she's been thinking about how the queer community organized to protect itself from queer bashing in the 1980s and 1990s, during the height of the AIDS epidemic in the United States.

I found this detail to be completely astounding.

When hate crimes spiked in 2020, so did anti-trans hate crimes. It's not as much about volume as it is the kind of attacks the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeing

It shows both how much this anti-trans violence has ramped up and how small the community actually is. It's no coincidence that these women experienced these scary, life-altering events in such a short period of time.

While one of the women attacked this month was recovering at her friend Michaela's house, Michaela was misidentified by the online right as the "trans shooter" who killed Charlie Kirk.

According to the county prosecutor's office, there's been at least four more group beatings since June 2024. In one case, strangers joined in. The kicker?

Texas school threatens to fire faculty if they discuss this topic ASU says the new policy is in response to Texas law. But no such law banning discussions of trans people exists.

NEW: Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX has told faculty that they can't discuss trans people in curriculum. When I asked the justification for the policy, they referenced Texas state law - but Texas law doesn't forbid discussions of trans people in higher ed.
