shit for a second i thought it was Friday (yes i know i just wrote "it is 2:30 on Thursday") and then i looked at the date and realized it's Thursday

my sense of time is usually pretty bad anyway, but.... lmao

i thought it was Friday yesterday. it was not. now it is 2:30pm on Thursday instead, and it feels like the week should have ended yesterday, i think? πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

think i meant to send "ios swipe typing is so bad" to a friend once, it came out as "ios dedupe typing i'd do msg"

i spend more time trying to correct swipe typing's mistakes on my iPhone than i save by trying to use it, every single time

oh, you swiped n-o-w? you must have meant "not." no? how about "new"? still no? hmm. well you couldn't have meant "now," that'd be silly!

I recently heard about a teacher who instead of trying to circumvent students using ai, which is impossible, she made assignments by going "ask ChatGPT to write a report on this subject, and then research how and why it's wrong".

Not only did the students discover that chatGPT is extremely wrong a lot of the time, it also lead them to realize that they should not use it as a primary source.

Teaching AI literacy.

(GenAI is wrong A LOT. And even though people tend to think it saves time, we now have randomized controlled trials that show situations where it takes *more* time even when participants self-report it's saving them time.)

It didn't used to be this way. Blue sky used to be alt text everywhere and non alt text images got no traction. But then the influx began and the newbies failed to learn the rules.
Alt text peeps. It's not that hard
And improves reach, is inclusive and adds context.

humans can't actually multitask

we should really be working on tasks individually, in chunks of time

i output way more work than i used to because of this

AI doesn't help you, it makes you look for the mistakes it makes, taking up way more time than if you just wrote something yourself

Screenshot of a post from the PC master race subreddit. It says "Man please stop dodging me I'm trying to conserve minuscule amounts of cpu/memory". Below, a photo of someone banging their desk with the text "When I try to end a task in task manager just for the app to jump to another spot causing me to end some other fuckass app"

If you hold CTRL, it will pause Task Manager so the processes don't move around when you're sorted by resource usage

not the first time i see this dark pattern when you long-press an ios app icon it begs you not to delete it. i think anyone doing this should get a lifetime ban from the app store at the very least with no chance for appeals

There's this last minute rush that you grow accustomed to with ADHD, where you enter a sort of 'Clown Time' zone and do a months worth of work in a week then sleep for 2 weeks after

I'm circling the rim of the clown right now.

New Discord mobile protip: you can now tap on text in `backticks` to copy it! Put `backticks` around things like ID numbers, flight numbers, and other information you want to be easy to copy on mobile.

For phone numbers and email addresses, you can use <angle brackets> instead, and they'll linkify!

An infographic. There are six panels.

1. "Slow internet. Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images." a drawing shows a phone with poor signal, and alt text is visible where the image should have loaded.

2. "Findabillity. Alt text helps to search content." A drawing shows someone searching 'dog with banana' and a post is shown underneath without the words 'dog' or 'banana'. It is implied to be part of the alt text.

3. "Screen readers. Alt is read out to people using text-to-speech software". There is a drawing of the output a screen-reader would show when viewing an image with alt text on bluesky.

4. "Translation. Alt text can be translated". A drawing shows a post being translated. The alt text is also translated into german.

5. "Readability. Text in images can be made legible" There is a drawing of some truly awful handwriting inside a speech bubble. The alt text clarifies what the text is supposed to say.

6. "Disambiguation. Description helps clarify intent." There is a drawing of a post with a picture of a creature. This is styled after the famous optical illusion of a rabbit and a duck. The alt text clarifies that the animal is a rabbit. It definitely looks more like a duck.

Generally we think of alt-text as the domain of those with accessibility needs.

However alt-text is useful for many reasons, which benefit your viewers, as well as you, the creator!
