Pro tip for meal prep. If I’m on the road, most often I will use gallon zip loc bags for my meals. This is 7oz of ground venison and a can of Lima beans. See the third slide for macros. The room has a refrigerator, but no microwave. So what I do is fill a sink up with hot water and let my bag of food sit for a few minutes and then flip it over on the other side to heat it up. On this trip I forgot my spoon. Rather than call down to room service and ask for silverware I just use a wine glass as a scoop to get the food out of the bag and drink/eat it. Works as well with a plastic cup. But man, that wine glass was pure luxury.. I partied pretty hard at the end of the year. Time to reel it in and get back on track with my nutrition.

It was Windows 8 launching the UWP concept, a category of apps that work more like the iOS App Store with DRM and all that. He got spooked as fuck and honestly while it seemed silly at the time I don't think he was wrong

I have been able to launch Windows preconfig'd GOG DOSbox games through Linux and play through them, so it's certainly capable of it. I haven't played any PC-98 games this way or whatever, though

yeah I haven't gone that deep, I've played like MSX games and stuff but my own usage hasn't run into totally unsupported emulators. And I'm not sure how those would operate through proton if you launched them that way from the Windows versions. It's a bit of an edge case situation for most, though

Most recently I did a run of Demon's Souls patched to run 60fps. Had to do some of that config manually on the desktop side, but that would of course be the case for any modding of an individual game on an emulator. But after that, I was just launching it from the Steam big picture UI every time

I can't speak to PS4 emulation personally but I have seen people running Bloodborne on their Steam Decks lately so that must be going well lol

Emudeck is a project that puts them all in one big package you can config, and then have them launch as individual games from the console-style UI side. I have consoles from 8 bit through PS3 set up through mine

emulator support is everything pretty much? I can't even think of one that isn't supported. They're nearly all native, most of them are made by the sorts of sickos who were doing native versions well before all this.

It's pretty common for people to use unused old hardware or newer underpowered mini PCs to make an indie game "console" with Bazzite that works basically like a retail console frontend usable with a controller alone

If you're going to play old or 2D indie games and you want a gaming-forward OS, sure, why not? But otherwise try something like Mint or PopOS. All of these are pretty easy to install and get going with.

If you're unaware, Steam uses Proton automatically in this context, which translates games over from Windows to Linux. You don't have to do anything for most Steam games. They just work when you launch them. Unless they need kernel-level anticheat.

*hardware configs, rather. Official SteamOS is for the Steam Deck and a few other third party handheld PCs, anything else you have to handle yourself. Bazzite handles the other stuff for you, gets your drivers and all that in order. You can run it like a Steam Deck at launch, or boot to desktop

SteamOS itself only officially supports a handful of software configs, which is why projects like Bazzite exist. They're putting in the work to open it up to working for everything else.

It's built around Steam, it's a SteamOS clone. You can run other platforms from the desktop side or make shortcuts to their games to run through Proton, the translation layer that makes Windows games work under Linux. Steam handles that automatically.
