Midwifery Crisis: Lack of Trust & Failing System

While I’m sad that my home state of GA did not apply, I’m excited for the 15 states about to start the 10 year journey to transform #maternalhealth through a midwifery and whole person care model. #populationhealth

Text on a coral background reads: "My research has provided recommendations for how hospital sites can implement the preterm birth pathway at their hospital site to ensure successful implementation.

These recommendations include improving the knowledge of risk factors and the purpose of the preterm surveillance clinic amongst clinicians. Sites should focus on training staff on preterm risk factors and pathology, while undergraduate midwifery courses should aim to integrate this into their teaching.” There is a small photo if Naomi Carlisle.

This month on our blog: ARC South London researcher Naomi Carlisle discusses her recent work on the IMPART study, now included in an NIHR Alert, and her experiences as a maternity researcher

Quoted text on blue background: “Our findings provide valuable insights to inform the targeted rollout of enhanced continuity of midwife care in underserved and ethnically diverse areas. Further research is now needed to better understand barriers to timely antenatal care and the specific benefits experienced by Black women on this pathway” Professor Jane Sandall, Professor of

Social Science and Women's Health, King’s College London

A large study in England suggests continuity of midwife care can improve outcomes for Black women and support uptake of breastfeeding 👇
