Sean Hecker, Kilmar's attorney, once hailed how much courage it took Kilmar to challenge what DOJ/DHS is doing to him. That stuck with me. Kilmar Abrego is just some guy, vulnerable in a way most of us are not.
But he has taken on Trump and ... thus far at least, prevailed.
I think itโs also true that loneliness among women has historically been treated as an individual problem, while loneliness among men is treated as a societal problem. That, in turn, comes from an assumption that women are supposed to earn the company of others while men are entitled to it.

The House Democratic caucus split three ways on the motion to table (i.e, motion to table) Al Green's resolution to impeach Trump.
140 Democrats voted against killing it.
43 Democrats joined Leadership in voting present.
These 23 voted with Republicans. Shame on them.

Thatโs a shame, because the story of how her grandmother integrates being a traditional healer with her religion (either Catholic or a Jehovahโs Witness? The endnote was slightly confusing) is a story Iโd love to read. (9/9)

I really enjoyed this book for the beautiful descriptions of the rainforest ecosystems, and consideration of Indigenous Peruvian knowledge and spirituality, but the cultural aspects of the book left me feeling like I was missing some of the picture. (8/9)

Her familyโs religious backgroundโdiverse, but predominantly Christianโis hidden in the endnotes, and she describes Carnaval as an โIndigenousโ holiday. She also describes participation in a Shipibo-Conibo ayahuasca ceremony without mentioning how they are shaped by the tourism industry. (7/9)

The chapters cover field expeditions at sites throughout Peru, and in a Nat-Geo style, are full of vivid description and adventure. Interwoven with that are conversations with Indigenous collaborators about the ecosystem, beliefs, and cultural beliefs. (4/9)
