This type of political violence is an attack on the foundations of our democracy itself. I am praying for the families and that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.

I am horrified and heartbroken by the news that two elected officials in Minnesota were shot in what Gov. Walz said was a politically motivated attack. We’ve now learned that former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed.

So Congress is trying to fleece working families to increase the wealth of top-earners.

While making it harder for seniors and low-income adults to get food and medical assistance, and raising state taxes.

This is all according to Congress’s own nonpartisan budget office.

Great plan.

Our Human Services Police officers are deerly committed to helping in all circumstances. They doe not hesitate to leap into action with compassion and professionalism.

It’s a privilege to work with the men and women of the NJ State Human Services Police. We honor their dedication every day, and once a year gather to remember the sacrifice law enforcement officers make to serve our communities. Thank you for our extraordinary service.

There is nothing big or beautiful about a bill that undermines food security for families.

So this World Hunger Day comes with an urgent call to action and advocacy to stop cuts to SNAP.

But Congress is trying to make food insecurity worse with the deficit-growing bill to cut taxes for the wealthy. The Big Bill would shift $100m+ of SNAP costs to NJ, increase red tape for working families, and cut in half reimbursements to counties for processing applications.

I’m proud New Jersey enacted a $95 per month minimum for residents receiving SNAP food assistance - the highest in the nation. I’m proud New Jersey expanded summer school meals, automatically enrolls children on Medicaid in free school meals and cross-matches eligibility between SNAP and WIC.

#WorldHungerDay2025 is a somber reminder of devastating food insecurity in our communities and around the globe.

There’s a lot for New Jersey to be proud of in this area, and more work to be done. But Congress is threatening our progress.

Today we remember those who gave their life in service to our nation. May we honor their sacrifice in our memories and in our actions. #MemorialDay
