Some computers are easy to spot β€” smartphones, laptops, the machines we build. But many natural systems β€” cells, brains, even turbulent fluids β€” carry out computations too.

A new paper by SFI’s David Wolpert and Jan Korbel explores these computations encoded in natural dynamic systems.

I was at an AI workshop with about 30 computer scientists a few years ago where the timeline for AGI was discussed at a backyard meetup over beers. We all made our predictions. One person predicted we will destroy ourselves militarily with #AI long before #AGI arrives. Seems like a likely scenario.
