It's what I was thinking of but didn't want to call it out! Just didn't understand the vision. Spyro got it bad too, but in a completely different way. It just got turned into any other unreal game.

Like I get annoyed when an otherwise fastidious remake gets the art direction incredibly wrong, but it would be a whole different thing if it was just completely re-imagined. Here's Star Fox, but with the aesthetic of Armored Core.

You know how people write cover songs? And occasionally they'll make style makeovers for old stories? Or, more rarely, do non-standard remakes for movies?

They should do that for videogames. Not like, remasters, but just toss the IP to a whole other team. See what they do with it.

Just stop worrying about progress. Just have fun with it. Do dumb stuff. Play with materials maybe. Play is the important word. There shouldn't be stress. You'll burn yourself out like that!
