an overview of Rift Riff crashes, diminishing over time, even flatlining over the last week or so.
Rift Riff had a high crash rate on Android (3-5% of sessions, yikes) due to Godot's implementation of the Vulkan renderer. This throttled our game's discoverability on the algorithm-based Google Play; very bad, obviously.

This was a really fun project for our team! The Switch 2 unlocked a lot of optimizations opportunities in the rendering backend (which we naturally took advantage of). We are looking forward to seeing how far people can push Godot games on the Switch 2!!

By sampling from lower res mip levels closer to the viewer, they you can get a good approximation for how light disperses through the atmosphere.
This approach misses a lot of the key components of true aerial perspective, but it is a convincing approximation.

Naughty Dog presented a really interesting trick for faking aerial perspective in their 2016 SIGGRAPH presentation. If you haven't seen it, its worth checking out. advances.realtimerendering.com/other/2016/n...
They fake perspective by sampling from mip levels of the pre-baked environment map.
