It's naive to think Trump would lock up his kith and kin.

I know people keep saying this but it’s hard to communicate the depth of active resistance here. Like, I’m on random cafes and people are checking in for observation shifts. Signs everywhere. Folks in visibility vests on the corners. It’s wild. Absolutely wild.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Parsability of a thread is good: multiple convos, like reader footnotes, plus ability to reshare specific insights.

I make this point all the time. As historians, we know nothing lasts forever. It’s a bit disorienting to live through the decline + fall of the American public research university (and it’s maddening that said decline has the causes it does) but history is about changeβ€”in all domains and directions

So deeply perverse that Miller expresses exactly the racism that some Americans expressed towards his great grandparents in 1924.

Just finished American Psycho last night, and it's worth remarking that when Ellis imagined who the idol of a murderous, soulless, psychopath might be, he picked Donald Trump.

As I think @calliope5431.bsky.social pointed out, Bateman is obsessed with Trump. His name prob comes up 50 times.

The House I Live In
YouTube video by Library of Congress The House I Live In

A cool thing about "The House I Live In" is that its lyrics were written by Abel Meeropol, best known for (a) writing the lyrics for the anti-lynching song "Strange Fruit," recorded by Billie Holiday, and (b) adopting Julius and Ethel Rosenberg's orphaned sons.

Now that Bari Weiss pulled a segment telling the truth about Trump's deportations to let Stephen Miller have his say (i.e. spread propaganda), it's a good time to check out our deep dive into Miller's real worldview and agenda, which doesn't pull any punches:

The CBS investigation portrays a modern concentration camp, similar to the Soviet GULAG (like CECOT, an acronym): sadistic guards, 24 hour lighting, isolation cells.
Americans once opposed this inhumane system.
The Trump administration sent innocent people there to suffer.

Sir Harold Evans: Crusading editor who exposed Thalidomide impact dies aged 92 The British-American journalist, publisher and author was best-known for his campaigns against injustice.

Old news? Often, powerful people just claim the horse you're beating is dead because they want you to move on. Under Harold Evans, the Sunday Times covered Thalidomide for years before anyone else realized the importance of the story. www.bbc.com/news/uk-5427...
