While translating an Italian article about the machine, Ada added her own extensive notes—far longer than the original text. In them, she included what is now recognized as the first algorithm intended for machine processing. What set Lovelace apart was her insight that machines could go beyond mere calculation to manipulate symbols and possibly create art or music—an idea that anticipated modern computing.
